16 days of Campaign Against Violence Against Women

The University of Wrocław, together with many universities and institutions in Wrocław, has joined the ORANGE THE WORD: END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN NOW! This is a campaign organised by the UN Secretary General to stop violence against women. The campaign has started on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and will last until 10 December, Human Rights Day. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the event.

Orange the World is an international campaign whose main message is to eradicate violence against women. The campaign was initiated in 1991 by the Women’s Global Leadership Institute at Rutgers University. Since the 1990s it has been organised by the Soroptimist International Organization and the United Nations. The start and end dates of the event are meant to emphasise that women’s rights are human rights. The symbol of the campaign is the colour orange.

Violence against women and domestic violence takes many forms: physical, psychological or economic. It also does not affect a specific social group. It affects people of all ages and financial status. People who experience violence feel alone and helpless and very often do not know where to look for help.

During the 16 days of the Campaign, many events will be available, about which the organisers will inform on the website of the EU Centre for Business Cooperation.

The campaign has received honorary patronage of the President of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk and the Council of Women in Wrocław .
