The Research University has money for our scientists to purchase research equipment. This year’s edition of the competition from the Research Equipment Fund is launched. In the previous edition, a microscope for the Faculty of Biotechnology was purchased for 6.5 million PLN, which is nowhere else to be found in Poland, and there are only 160 similar microscopes in the world. What will we buy this time? It depends only on the scientists from the University of Wrocław!

The purpose of the competition is to support scientific research conducted within the Priority Research Areas defined in the “Initiative of Excellence – Research University” program (IDUB).

What can you receive money for?

  • purchase, manufacture or extension of a scientific and research equipment with a total value exceeding PLN 500,000;
  • hiring, leasing or renting of scientific and research equipment or IT infrastructure with a total value exceeding PLN 150 000;
  • hiring an employee to manage the purchased equipment for the duration of the IDUB project.  The maximum salary financing from the fund corresponds to the currently applicable minimum salary for assistant professors. A unit may finance higher remuneration with its own contribution;
  • the cost of maintenance for the duration of the IDUB project.

Every employee of the University of Wrocław may apply for the money after the application is supported by the dean of the faculty or the head of the non-faculty unit in which the applicant is employed. By supporting the application, the dean or head of the non-faculty unit assumes responsibility for timely preparation of the room according to the requirements of the equipment. The costs of adapting the room are covered by the faculty.

The equipment or IT infrastructure that is the subject of the application may consist of more than one device if they are jointly necessary to achieve the functionality outlined in the application.

Funding from the Research Equipment Fund may cover the cost of the project in whole or in part. The applying unit may declare own contribution coming from other sources. All details including the application and the basis for the regulation can be found here.
