Dr Mateusz Strzelecki from the Institute of Geography and Regional Development has been chosen for this year’s edition of the Leader Academy for Poland 2020. LAP is a ‘good leadership’ programme managed by respected professors from the most renowned academic institutions in the world – Harvard or London Business School, among others. Members of the academy are actively engaged in various sectors – education, business, non-profit organisations, etc. In the project, they develop their competencies within three areas: motivation, management and self-development.

Dr Strzelecki has been nominated by the Foundation for Polish Science and he will be the first academic from the University of Wrocław in the programme.


Dr Mateusz Strzelecki worked in the UK, Norway and Germany. He managed the Stanisław Baranowski Spitsbergen Polar Station, was the leader of Polish researchers of coastal evolution and landscape transformation in the High Arctic, as well as the youngest  member of the Committee on Polar Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He has done research in Svalbard, Greenland, Island, Scandinavian islands, the Antarctic and Canada. The goal of his research is to determine how the climatic changes reshape polar coasts and endanger socio-economic changes and the people living there.
