GREEN CHEMISTRY, full-time studies of the first degree

Green Chemistry is a field of study that prepares you to meet the challenges facing the chemical sector in terms of implementing the principles of sustainable development, including energy transition based on renewable energy sources and green hydrogen.

During your studies, you will become acquainted with issues of environmentally friendly chemistry: green hydrogen technologies, renewable energy sources, biofuels, methods of energy acquisition and storage as well as pro-ecological issues (biodegradable materials and utilization and recycling of plastics), electromobility and decarbonization.

By studying with us, you will learn and understand the principles of green chemistry, which will allow you to evaluate chemical processes for compliance with these principles and to propose appropriate modifications. You will be able to design chemical processes in line with the principles of environmentally friendly chemistry.

You will have the opportunity to undertake work experience and internships in:

• large chemical companies in energy, cosmetics, chemical processing, pharmaceutical industries
• research and development laboratories engaged in developing and implementing environmentally friendly technologies, including hydrogen technologies
• accredited analytical laboratories

What about after graduation?

The emphasis placed during the studies on practical skills and access to specialised measuring equipment opens up opportunities for professional realisation at positions related to chemical analysis, design and synthesis of new materials, planning, execution and implementation of new technologies, as well as problems of modern energy based on renewable energy sources and hydrogen economy.

EAST EUROPEAN JEWISH STUDIES, full-time studies of the second degree (in English)

The Taube Department of Jewish Studies is proud to announce its new International MA Programme in East European Jewish Studies, taught entirely in English.

Be part of it beginning October 2022, at the University of Wrocław in Poland. Join us for three academic tracks and three languages over three semesters.

Our master classes and seminars focus on three key areas of Jewish life and experience in Eastern Europe. First, the Hasidism track examines the history of a major Jewish popular mystical movement that is flourishing worldwide. The second track centers on Yiddish literature and society in Eastern Europe. The third track examines the modern history of Polish Jews, pushing past received scholarly perimeters.

This is a perfect opportunity to develop critical language skills in Yiddish, Hebrew, and Polish. We also offer a unique course on Applied Jewish Heritage, developed in collaboration with the Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland.

Students will interact closely with our excellent faculty members and world-renown guest lecturers. With small classes, generous studentships, and a close-knit community of scholars and students from all over the world. We are creating a premiere learning experience unavailable anywhere else in the world.

The Taube Department of Jewish Studies is located on Sand Island in Wrocław in southwestern Poland. This is possibly the most beautiful city you’ve never heard of in the heart of Europe, where East European Jewish memory and heritage run deep and wide.

Our eighteenth-century building, where Nobel Prize winners dreamed and worked, is an inspiring place to begin exploring the many Judaica treasures in our local archives and libraries.

This is the only place in Europe where you can immerse yourself so deeply in the rich culture of Polish and Eastern European Jews, acquire cutting-edge academic research skills, and discover a wealth of material heritage.

ROMANCE STUDIES, full-time studies of the second degree

The Master’s degree in Romance studies is based on an intensive study of two selected Romance languages:

• first from level C1.1 (French or Spanish; 210 hours of practical language training),
• and a second from any level (French, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese; 120 hours of practical language training),

The study of Romance languages also offers the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in a chosen field: linguistics, literary studies or translation studies in the framework of a master’s seminar, lectures and elective courses. In all of these classes, we share with our students the specialist knowledge and skills to conduct research of the highest quality. Thanks to the wide range of elective subjects in the programme, a student of Romance studies can design a study path according to his/her own interests and needs.

Those interested in translation can pursue a specialisation in translation as part of their elective courses in a new, flexible format. A minimum of 7 selected translation courses must be passed in order to complete the specialisation. The full range includes Polish for translators, tools for translator’s work, professional profiles of specialist translators, interpreting, general translation, audiovisual translation, literary translation, certified translation, legal and commercial translation and scientific and technical translation.

Studying Romance studies also offers the opportunity to prepare for the teaching profession. Completion of the module, developed in cooperation with the Teacher Education Centre at the University of Wrocław, entitles our graduates to work as teachers of French or Spanish in public schools of various levels.

During their studies, our students can also go to universities abroad and work placements within the Erasmus+ programme.

What about after graduation?

As a Romance studies graduate, you can work as a translator or teacher of French or Spanish, or find yourself in the publishing industry, media or cultural institutions. But knowledge of Romance languages is also highly valued in various companies, e.g. global corporations such as HP, Google, IBM, Volvo IT, Crédit Suisse or Microsoft, which eagerly locate their branches in Wrocław, are always looking for candidates fluent in languages other than English and German.

EUROPEAN STUDIES speciality EU POLITICS, full-time studies of the second degree (in English)

Program is offered by the Chair of European Studies (Faculty of Social Sciences) at the University of Wroclaw. The curriculum focuses on the EU institutions and policies but also on the specific knowledge related to European Civilization and Cultural Identities in Europe. In seminars and workshops students will analyze problems related to EU external relations, area of freedom, security and justice, EU governance, and social policy in the EU. Particular emphasis will be put on various aspects of EU regional policy and skills associated with management of EU funds and projects.

The MA program is postgraduate one, that requires from candidate to hold BA or MA degree in any area. The programme is taught entirely in English by experts in their fields.

The programme includes also special meetings with non-academic experts, representatives of international organisations, international corporations, NGOs, diplomats, politicians, and others. Additionally, we organise special training so you would become a desirable candidate in the labour market.

The course lasts two years, structured in four semesters, the first of which runs from the end of September to mid-February, the second from the beginning of March to the end of June. In order to receive the Master’s degree, the graduates will be required to complete 120 ECTS points in up to four semesters and write a Master’s thesis.

If you have concluded your BA in Political Sciences, European Studies, International Relations, Law, Economics, Administration, Humanities, Languages or other related studies, you are eligible for this MA.

The MA in European Studies gives you an opportunity to spend a semester or even a year abroad under the Erasmus+ umbrella. The offer is opened for both EU and non-EU citizens.

A graduate of the European Studies program is a specialist prepared to work as a professional staff member at institutions of local and national government, and national and international cultural and social agencies, such as EU institutions and other international organizations. The European Studies program prepares graduates for work in public and private enterprises in Poland and throughout European States. It would be also available experience for students planning their career development at institutions of non-EU states with wide cooperation with the European Union.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT, full-time studies of the second degree

These studies are addressed to people who are interested in gaining the necessary theoretical knowledge, practical skills and social competences in acquiring, analyzing, interpreting and applying advanced methods of information management. During the studies we offer two modern specializations: data analytics or digital cultural heritage. The new field of study will equip graduates with unique abilities to reflect on the extraordinary and inexhaustible resource of information defined as what is processed, stored and retrieved. In line with the needs of today’s knowledge-based economy, the studies will prepare for a career in the broad field of information management. Graduates of the new course will be highly qualified specialists with practical skills in information processing and planning, management, distribution and use of information resources. These skills are now useful everywhere, and the job market shaped by information and communication technologies needs information management specialists.

MEDITERRANEAN AND CLASSICAL STUDIES, full-time studies of the second degree – more information soon

Do you want to deepen your knowledge of the Greco-Roman world? Would you like to read freely in the original not only Cicero, Virgil, Tacitus, but also the works of St. Thomas Aquinas, Petrarch, the treatises of Leonardo da Vinci, the Latin poetry of Jan Kochanowski? Or would you like to explain mythological canvases of Rubens, Poussin and Ingres to your friends in museums, referring to ancient texts? Are you interested in the culture of Arab countries and contemporary Italy? Would you like to know which of the Renaissance popes was a pirate in his youth? Did you know that one of the associations of Arab poets in the 1930s was named after the Greek god Apollon?

Mediterranean and Classical Studies – is a new field of study at the Faculty of Letters, designed for undergraduates with knowledge of selected Mediterranean languages (Latin, Greek, Arabic or Italian) and English at B2 level. During your studies, you will gain knowledge of the Mediterranean countries and have the opportunity to attend lectures and seminars on Digital Humanities, Literary Comparatism, and Translation Theory and Practice.

The field of study includes the following specialisations:

• Specialisation: classical philology

Due to the requirement of good knowledge of ancient Greek and Latin, this specialisation is addressed to graduates of Bachelor’s degree in Classical philology. In this specialisation you will deepen your knowledge of both classical languages, classical culture (including the material culture) and the heritage of antiquity in Polish and world culture.

• Specialisation: Arabic or Italian

The specialisation is designed for graduates of the Mediterranean Studies major as well as for graduates of other fields of study. Students can study Arabic or Italian from level B1 and become acquainted with the history, literature, art and customs of selected regions of the Mediterranean.

WHAT TO DO AFTER THE STUDY

In-depth knowledge of a classical or modern language as well as history and culture of a selected region of the Mediterranean enables the students to work in: Polish institutions of science and culture, publishing houses, editorial offices, archives, tourism.
