PLASTIC DINOSAURS FROM THE REAL ONES? (LECTURE)

The Institute of Geological Sciences of the University of Wrocław would like to invite all interested to the lecture titled “If plastic is produced from oil, and oil is created from the remains of living creatures, does it mean that plastic dinosaurs are built from real dinosaurs?”

Professor Grzegorz Lis will conduct the lecture, which will take place on Saturday, on 20 February 2021., between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., link to the meeting.

Have you ever wondered what are the chances that your favourite childhood toy dinosaur has something in common with the real living dinosaur? We all know that plastic is made from oil and that oil has its origins in the remains of creatures living in a distant geological past. Hence, is it possible that your plastic dinosaur, to some extent, was created from the genuine T. rex? We would like to invite you to embark on this journey in time, during which we will explain from what and when oil was developed, we will also specify the substances of which the dinosaurs were made up, and which from those substances were resistant to decay and could be preserved in rocks. Above all, we would attempt to answer the following question, already stated in the title: Are plastic dinosaurs made out of real ones?
