Last winter, many European regions were snow-free. Long-awaited in Wrocław, it came just for a moment on the last day of March. In the early morning, the university’s meteorological observatory registered 2-cm-high snow surface, which was gone by noon. The city enjoyed sunny weather for the next couple of weeks. Next rainfall (0,6 mm per square meter) came on 25th April and it was one of few in recent months. This paper, however, is not a weather report but rather it describes an environmental and economic problem that is being increasingly often discussed – drought.

Due to the safety measures, electors met at the Wrocław Stadium. 200 people voted for the following candidates: Professor Karol Kiczka, Professor Bogusław Pawłowski, Dr Leszek Pułka, and Professor Przemysław Wiszewski. OUR IT STUDENTS WIN A CODING COMPETITION

‘Ocean of Code’ is a name of a programming competition in the field of artificial intelligence, which took place on CodinGame platform. In the contest, participants had to write programmes that competed against programmes written by other participants in a game proposed by the organisers. The idea was taken from a strategic board game ‘Captain Sonar.’ The goal of each programme was to manoeuvre a submarine in such a way that it attacked other submarines while remaining invisible to them at the same time. Contestants representing the University of Wroclaw took first place in this competition.

CORONAVIRUS SARS-COV-2 – BIOLOGY, DETECTION AND TREATMENT

The coronavirus pandemic is an unusual period for all of us. We are facing the fear and uncertainty about our and our close ones’ health, about the job and the future. Some of us are facing loss of our loved ones. We had to change our daily routines, reorganise our work, learning and looking after children. We do not know when everything will come back to normal or whether this “normal” that we used to know will ever come back. We are not able to predict how the situation will develop. In these difficult times, we have asked the scientists from the University of Wrocław to share with us how they look at the situation from their scientific perspective. For starters, Prof. Zuzanna Drulis-Kawa from the Institute of Genetics and Microbiology will tell us what the coronavirus is.

CORONA AND VIRUS
