Science knows no bounds

At the University of Wroclaw, the development is only possible in contact with world-class scientific centres. We want our University to strengthen its position as a significant Central European research and teaching centre, constantly cooperating with the best centres in the region.

Prof. Przemysław Wiszewski, Rector of the University of Wrocław and Vice-Rectors, Prof. Patrycja Matusz and Prof. Eugeniusz Zych, signed several important agreements on the first weekend of October, strengthening the international cooperation of our University with universities in Germany and the Czech Republic. Prof. Matusz describes it in the following way:

– We successfully signed an agreement in Dresden formalising cooperation with the Technical University of Dresden. It is an important partner for us in the region. We hope that the signed agreement will allow us to act more intensively on the exchange of students and employees. We would like to develop joint scientific projects, especially within the Horizon Europe programme.

The University of Wroclaw offers close cooperation with the universities of our immediate neighbours. The international conference “Cross-border innovation for the Central European region(s)” took place in Dresden and focused on strengthening scientific cooperation within the German-Polish-Czech Science Platform. In addition to representatives of the university authorities of three countries, it was attended, among others, by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Bundestag President Wolfgang Schäuble.

During the conference, cooperation in the face of today’s challenges was discussed (including research and innovation for sustainable economic development of Central Europe, sustainable regional cooperation, industry 4.0, industry participation in incubating more start-ups, mobility program for young scientists and students).

Prof. Matusz concludes:

– We are committed to strengthening cooperation with partners from Central Europe. Dresden is our natural partner. The Technical University has a very high position in international rankings. We would also like to strengthen our cooperation with Brno. It is a university that has managed to improve its international position very much. Willingness to cooperate is very strong, which gives us a chance to benefit from each other’s experience.

During the conference the activities of CASUS center (Center for Advanced Systems Understanding) based in Goerlitz were also presented. The University of Wrocław has participated in the activities of CASUS since its inception and the agreement signed in Dresden on expanding cooperation between CASUS and UWr will strengthen our position.
