Faculty of Biotechnology
It was established in 2006 on the basis of the Institute of Biochemistry of Molecular Biology, which was joined by several research teams from the Institute of Genetics and Microbiology. The Faculty of Biotechnology runs two full-time fields of study: biotechnology first- and second-cycle studies (studies in Polish) and biotechnology first- and second-cycle studies (studies in English). There is also a doctoral programme at the Faculty.
An advantage of biotechnology education at the University of Wrocław is the direct involvement of students in scientific research in the form of voluntary work and through the realisation of three-semester master’s theses as part of the research projects of the academic staff. The staff of the Faculty of Biotechnology consists of 110 employees, 72 academic teachers (including 24 post-doctoral fellows and professors) and 12 research staff employed in 13 departments and 2 laboratories.
The Faculty is authorised to grant doctoral and post-doctoral degrees in biological sciences in the disciplines of biochemistry and biotechnology. Faculty staff carry out research in collaboration with national and international centres in the areas of biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular cell biology and bioinformatics. The Faculty currently holds an A+ category. Since 2013, the Faculty of Biotechnology has been housed in new premises and has high-quality apparatus facilities in research laboratories and well-equipped teaching rooms and laboratories. The Faculty houses the editorial board of the scientific journal “Cellular&Molecular Biology Letters” and the Student Scientific Association of Biotechnologists “Przybysz” is thriving.
