Faculty of Letters
It is today the largest faculty at the University of Wrocław, consisting of eight institutes and two chairs. It offers full-time and part-time philological studies in linguistics, literary and cultural studies, social communication and journalism, and scientific information and library science. It offers full-time and part-time first- and second-cycle studies, as well as postgraduate and doctoral programmes. Graduates of the Faculty are Polish, journalists, librarians, teachers and translators of many foreign languages (English, Czech, Danish, French, Spanish, Dutch, German, Russian, Serbian, Croatian, Ukrainian and Hindi, Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, Hebrew and Yiddish, Korean, Chinese). Students and students can also acquire competences in teaching Polish as a foreign language, speech therapy, cultural management, business communication (foreign language in business), new technologies in editing or information management. The Faculty’s institutes are characterised by a large and very diverse range of research topics, which go far beyond the traditionally understood philology. Many of them are interdisciplinary and comparative, entering the areas of other sciences, e.g. film studies, theatre studies, glottodidactics, media studies, PR and advertising theory, scientometrics, bibliometrics. There are almost 30 research groups in the Faculty, mainly comprising literary and linguistic scholars, as well as theoreticians of literature, theatrologists, librarians, journalists, film scholars, editors and translators.
