TOGETHER FOR WROCŁAW. UNIVERSITY OF WROCŁAW, WROCLAW MEDICAL UNIVERSITY, AND MPK
Today we concluded the vaccination action of Wrocław University employees and students. The vaccinations in the University Library also included students from other universities… and even MPK employees. The idea was to use every vaccine – representatives of the University of Wrocław, the Medical University, and MPK explained.
The vaccinations could not have been carried out if it were not for the support of the Medical University, which conducted the entire process in the University Library building.
– We vaccinated 5500 people on site, mostly students. We vaccinated not only the students of the University of Wrocław, but also those from other Wroclaw universities. There were students of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology (300 persons), the University School of Economics and Business (150), and the University School of Physical Education (100) – said Professor Przemysław Wiszewski, the Rector of the University of Wrocław.
We have also vaccinated foreign students – around 1200 of them – and this shows that if students had no other possibility of being vaccinated, they took advantage of the opportunity created by the University of Wrocław. Many of our Polish students have already been vaccinated within the scope of general vaccination, or (as they inform us via e-mail) they will be vaccinated at their place of residence – in Szczecin, Gorzów, Katowice, or smaller towns in the region.
As estimated by the university authorities, currently about 30% of students of the University of Wrocław are vaccinated with the first dose.
– In order to make use of the vaccines which we received and which the students did not get (because they were vaccinated at their place of residence), we offered the possibility of vaccinating to the employees of Wrocław’s MPK. We cooperate with MPK on various projects and we know that drivers and motormen, because of their direct contact with passengers, need quick vaccinations. Such vaccinations were carried out last weekend – says Rector Wiszewski.
All willing MPK Wrocław employees were vaccinated with the first or second dose. Thanks to the quick action of vaccinating the MPK stuff, the carrier could eliminate the buffer zones in the vehicles as of today (27.05). MPK employees were vaccinated both on their own and through a vaccination campaign organised by the employer. For three days, almost 250 MPK employees put their arms for vaccines.
– I am delighted that so many of our employees took part in the vaccinations. Thanks to the help of not just one but two universities, we managed to organise vaccines, medical staff, and place. Everyone who wanted could take part in the action, and when their work conflicted with it, we were able – for example – to postpone an employee’s duty. Health is the most important thing – says Krzysztof Balawejder, the chairman of MPK Wrocław.
The second university, without whose help the action in MPK Wrocław would have been impossible, was the Medical University. It was also at the University Clinical Hospital in Borowska Street that the vaccinations took place.
– In order to use the vaccines that we received and that the students did not get (by vaccinating at their place of residence), the University of Wrocław offered us the possibility of vaccinating the employees of Wrocław’s MPK, and we were happy to join in – adds Tomasz Zatoński, the Vice-Rector of the Medical University. The University of Wroclaw, the Medical University, and MPK cooperate in various projects. We know that drivers and motormen, because of their direct contact with passengers, need quick vaccinations. Such vaccinations were carried out last weekend.
But this is not the end. On 16 June there will be a chance for all Wrocław students who have not yet been vaccinated to come to the Library and “lend a shoulder”. While the first group will take the second dose, they will get the first injection.
