Women’s Rights Academy

The European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) Wrocław would like to invites you to the second edition of the Women’s Rights Academy, which will take place on 15th and 16th March. During these two days, we will discuss topics related to broadly understood women’s rights and discrimination on the basis of gender. Our aim is to take new actions, draw attention to these issues, as well as to the currently existing problems concerning non-observance of the right to equal treatment. We intend to raise the legal and sociological knowledge about women’s rights in Poland.

This year we are focused on the issue of discrimination against women in the labor market and violence against women. Therefore, we have prepared 3 webinars:

  • On 15th March at 5:00p.m. there will be a discussion panel Equal Rights And Equal Opportunities: About Discrimination Against Women in the Labor Market, featuring: Mrs. Joanna Cur (lawyer – specialized in labor law and issues related to ethics in business, academic coach and lecturer, who deals with the subject of mobbing and discrimination in the workplace, and helps women who have suffered this phenomenon), Dr. Sylwia Spurek (PhD in law, legal adviser, Member of the European Parliament, Deputy Ombudsman in 2015-2019. Author of the first draft of the act on counteracting domestic violence (2003), Dr. Anna Górska (assistant professor at Kozminski University and director of the Research Center for Women and Diversity in Organizations, which specializes in gender and diversity issues in organizations and universities) and Mrs. Beata Janikowska (Chairwoman of the Human Rights and Rule of Law Committee of the District Chamber of Legal Advisors in Wrocław);
  • On 15th March at 7:00p.m. we invite you to a lecture titled: Legal Prohibition of Sexist Jokes? About the Anti-stereotypical Activity of the Council of Europe, which will be given by Mrs. Olga Frańczak (PhD student at the University of Surrey connected with the Women’s Rights Center in Wrocław, whose research focuses on anti-stereotypical activity of the Council of Europe, including the Anti-Violence Convention);
  • On 16th March at 5:00p.m. we will finish the project with a discussion panel: Rape and culture? What is the culture of rape?, in which the Mr. Artur Król (psychologist and coach, as a scientific skeptic and scientific educator, he focuses on the science-based and evidence-based approach in the promotion of reliable, research-based knowledge, including gender equality) and Mrs Katarzyna Lisowska (works at the Department of Theory of Literature at the Institute of Polish Philology at the University of Wrocław, and is interested in the issues of the body, gender, and sexuality in literature and literary studies, as well as the practice of anarchism) take part.

The honorary patronage over the event was taken by the District Chamber of Legal Advisers in Wrocław and the Women’s Rights Center in Wrocław granted the Honorary Matronate – the feminist equivalent of patronage.
